  • Less than 0.5% of the world's total water is freshwater available for humans. Of the rest, 97% is salt water, and the other 2.5% is frozen in glaciers. Essentially, if the entire world’s water was in a bucket, then the freshwater available for people would only amount to a teaspoon full. Think about that when you leave the water running!
  • If the entire adult population of England and Wales remembered to turn off the tap when they were brushing their teeth, we could save 180 mega litres a day - enough to supply nearly 500,000 homes and fill 180 Olympic swimming pools! (One Olympic sized pool is 1 million litres / 1Mll.. 
  • There is the same amount of water on Earth as there was when Earth was formed!
  • Whether you believe it or not, you could use less water with a dishwasher than washing dishes by hand!
  • Did you know that a mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic maths, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
I know that I for one can be guilty of taking water for granted, but it really is a complete and utter luxury to some people. And I think we could all do with being more water savvy.
