Ways to Cosy Up Your Home This Autumn/Winter
Posted on the 25 October 2019 by Sparklesandstretchmarks @raine_fairyWith the colder months now approaching and autumn in full swing, we’re swapping t-shirt weather and swimming in the sea with warm blankets and days indoors. This means that during this time of year, the comfort and cosiness of your home is more important than ever. With dark mornings and drawn out evenings, it becomes easier to find reasons to stay within the comfort of your own home, doing activities such as arts and crafts, baking or board games. That being said, the home is somewhere you should feel happy and comfortable, a space you enjoy living in. So, to help you make your home a cosy and inviting place, we’ve put together some of our top tips for this autumn and winter.
Soften Your Space
Wherever you spend your family time together, make sure that it’s packed with soft and warm accessories. Whether you have a decadent corner suite, comfy arms chairs or even beanbags for the kids, adding blankets, cushions and throws can enhance your comfy level to the max! You could also choose to add a warm rug to keep your feet nice and toasty.
Create a Bedroom Paradise
Whether you’re hitting the sheets for an early night or curled up on Sunday mornings, the bed should be a place of warmth and comfort. If your current duvet isn’t quite cutting it, you could be due an upgrade! Check the label to see which tog you have and maybe opt for something a little warmer for winter. Alternatively, you could invest in some fleece bedsheets to stop you from feeling the chill on cold mornings.
Spruce Up Your Lighting
A room’s lighting can have a significant impact on how inviting it is, turning a previously dull space into something much more homely. During the day, it’s essential to let as much natural light in, as this is good for the skin and for the home! However, when the light begins to fade, it’s time to flick the switch and let your home glow. You could look to introduce a new style, such as some vintage lighting, or simply add to what you have already by hanging complementary lighting. Additionally, accessories such as fairy lights and candles can be a great way to add ambience to a room for those on a tight budget.
Get Spicy in the Kitchen
When winter rolls around, it’s time to bring out some home comforts. Tasty soups, home-cooked stews, and delightful warm desserts are the order of the day. Remember to stock up on warm winter spices such as cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different recipes and combinations. You could also try growing your own herbs in the kitchen, whether this is mint, bay laurel or chives. This is a great chance to get kids involved with the cooking and helping to teach them about the flavouring of their favourite recipes!
Relax and Enjoy Some Me Time
For many of us, there are few more relaxing places in the house than in the bath. During winter, warm and steamy baths are a staple, accompanied by lots of bubbles and scented candles. Make sure you’ve topped up on bubble bath and Epsom salts so that you can enjoy some relaxing time on the cold winter evenings.
Choose Colours Wisely
If you have an opportunity to switch out your colours, why not opt for darker, warmer ones during winter? Dark hues can absorb the natural light and make a room cosier, especially when complemented with darker soft furnishings. Remember, an entirely dark room will become gloomy rather than cosy, so throw in a few lighter shades to break up the moodier colours.
