It’s so weird to think that this is the last week of the summer. Some of you might be reading this and think “Huh?? It’s only July.” Well in Tucson, the school year is a little different than in the rest of the country. Our last day of summer camp is this coming Friday, and all of the schools start heading back the week after.
Part of me is ready to move on from the summer. In my campy family, though summer is a ton of fun, it’s also one of the most exhausting times of the year. There are so many late program planning nights and endless laundry and costumes for dress up days and swim suits and towels and lunches and so on and so on — phew!
The other part of me is sad though. Really sad. The school year means homework. I’m dreading it. I’m not dreading it for me really since I’m in a graduate studies program. I’m dreading it for my kids. I hate having to constantly be on top of them. I feel like the school year means that I have to be a little bit of a drill sergeant, and it’s a bummer. School means having to go to bed early, and it means lots and lots of rules. Sorry kids. That’s the way it is. Life means having to follow the rules. Uggghhhhh…..
My kiddo is off today for a special afternoon with her Grandma. She is going back to school shopping, which to me is definitely the bright side. I guess there is a silver lining to every dark cloud.
I can only hope and pray for a good year ahead, and truly – I am trying to be positive. So, here’s a sweet back to school song by the White Stripes. Enjoy “We’re Going to Be Friends,” and good luck to all of you with the school year ahead.
