As many of you may know the short version of the story already, I thought it would be wise to share the long version.
Yesterday Jared and I found out we were having triplets.
Shia and Indie are thrilled!
The story all starts about 2 months ago. The weather was warming up and Jared and I decided it was time to grill some delicious steaks. I went outside to open the grill and there were a bunch of sticks. We assumed some critter was trying to find warmth during the long cold winter. We cleaned out all the sticks, and it filled up a pretty big grocery bag. We ate our steak and truth be told it made me feel a little sick. I assumed that it was bird flu or something else that a hypochondriac would think up.
I didn't think much of it until yesterday. I went outside and saw that the grill lid had a few sticks poking out. I thought that it must have been from the months previous and we had missed a few. I opened up the lid and a bird the size of an antelope flew out. It must have been as big as I was and it came flying straight at my face. I screamed much louder than I knew my vocal chords could handle and I ran inside. Jared thought that some of the kids in our neighborhood had attacked me with water balloons. I was laughing so hard I couldn't explain the shriek so I just grabbed his hand and led him outside. At this point there were two neighbors on the porch staring at us as I showed Jared the giant nest that resided in our grill.
One neighbor yelled to us, and said he'd been watching birds fly in and out of our grill the past couple weeks.
Upon closer review I found out we were having triplets. I think they are robin eggs and I have already named them, thanks to a good facebook friend. We decided on the names breakfast, lunch and dinner. I know it may seem barbaric, but it's also kind of cute. Like naming a baby "sleep depriver". I know nothing about my triplets, like when they are due but I am excited to have them as temporary members of the family.
I can actually hear the mama bird out there chirping right now. I plan to leave her alone. She's like my surrogate.
Have you ever had a birds nest in your yard? What type of birds do you think I'm having from the eggs?
