We Were up with the Sun.

Posted on the 15 October 2012 by Agadd @ashleegadd

we were up with the sun.

We were up with the sun; he was hungry and I was tired. Through blurry vision I lifted him out of the crib, his eyes still shut tight, muffling fusses into my shoulder. I turned on the light and he sneezed five times in a row, just like he does most mornings. Fresh diaper, a belly kiss, and one giant smile later, we migrated back to the big bed. I could see a hint of sunrise peeking through the window blinds, and stopped to take a picture from our bedroom balcony.

Brett had already left for work. It was just us, no plans for the day, nowhere to be, no reason to get out of bed. The house was silent, and his eyes were slowly closing with each little gulp. He reached his tiny hand up to my face to play with my chin, and I pretended to eat his fingers. As soon as he finished, in one fell swoop, I rolled him over on his belly and curled up next to him. I pulled the covers up and tucked us in as we began a very intense staring contest. He smiled first, he always does, and I proclaimed myself the winner.

He babbled, he blew bubbles, he smiled again. I watched him silently, thanking God for making me a mother. Not five minutes passed before he fell asleep. I felt my own eyes getting heavy, and eventually closed them to the sound of tiny breaths and the scent of clean baby hair. We stayed like that for an hour and a half, and it was perfect.

I know Everett will be crawling soon, walking soon, constantly squirming soon, but for now? For now my goal is to start Mondays off slow, peaceful, quiet, and full of gratitude.

How do you like to start your week?
