Week One…down.

And I am alive and feeling pretty great!!!

Okay, I suppose I should start from the beginning. I was catching up on my blog reading last week when I came across a post about the Whole30 program on one of the blogs I read.

It piqued my curiosity for some reason. Mostly being that I am tired of feeling shitty and like I am 90 years old and it was time to change some stuff up to make that not happen anymore.

And as we know, the Universe always provides you with what you need.

I began the Whole30 program without hesitation that day. If you want to check it out just click here.

Now before you roll your eyes and go back to facebook, give me a second. This is not a diet. It’s not a fad. It’s not someone’s bright idea to make money.

It is about your health and how food affects absolutely everything about our bodies. Our mood, our energy, our illnesses. Every single thing that makes us sick is affected by what we eat.

If you don’t believe me read this book…It Starts With Food. It has changed everything for me.

I will give you a quick run down of the first week.

Let’s start with shopping shall we? So, when you aren’t eating sugar, wheat, or anything shit related, it limits your shopping. I walked around the perimeter of Save On Foods, because that is the only place in the store where you will find real food. Pretty much anything in the isles of the store is off limits because it is all processed crap. Really, who knew right? Next time you go shopping, check that out, it is pretty hard to believe that we do that to ourselves and that we let someone else tell us what is going to be good to eat. It’s all bullshit.

It is also a challenge.

One I am totally up for.

The things I really miss are cheese and milk….this is huge for me. It is my go to snack that I can no longer go to.  BUT…I have found a replacement for milk. Yay!!! Silk Unsweetened Almond milk is absolutely amazing. The biggest thing I have found is that you can’tSilk Almond Milk try and replace the food you are used to. Don’t poo-poo almond milk because it is not exactly the same as real milk. Real milk is shitty for your body anyways, unless you are 2, or a calf. Almond milk is fresh and seriously delicious, just make sure it is the unsweetened.

I have found that the basic thing about changing how you eat is changing pretty much everything. Ha. It’s way harder than I thought it would be, but I am spending a lot of time cooking, and really paying attention to what I am doing, and food is really bloody good without all the added crap we add to it. Like HP sauce (because I love this on my steak, but now cannot have it…guess what? Steak is still delicious!!)

And yes, you can eat steak, as much as you want.

In fact you can totally eat as much as you want of everything, because when you eat real food, you only eat until you are full. Because your body can tell that you are full, and you won’t need that bag of chips and loaf of bread for filler. Cool huh?

Let’s see…what else have I learned. Oh eggs…I eat lots of eggs. I have gone through nearly 4 dozen eggs this week.

You can do a lot of different things with eggs. I might need to get some chickens.

I would totally rather have bunnies, but they don’t lay eggs, and I can’t imagine eating a bunny after I have looked after it and learned to love it. So nevermind.

Last weekend we decided to go to the Buffalo Farm in Black Creek…we have talked about it for eons now, and finally just did it. We bought a $32 roast. I am not even fucking kidding. I mean when it was all going down we had no idea it was going to cost that much, but apparently water buffalo are super special. That and you should ask the chick how much the roast will be before she brings it to the til and rings it in. It was indeed the best bloody roast we have ever eaten, without question. But it isn’t going to happen again.

We are still on the lookout for grass fed meat that won’t cost us our first born. If you have any leads, let me know.

Oh and we have absolutely nothing for farm markets in Campbell River. Nothing. You have to go to Comox, our favorite place is Seiffert’s Farm Market. I bought the most crazy huge purple romaine I have ever seen. I really should have taken a picture of it. .

So the other bonus to this whole program is the weight loss. Now you are not supposed to weigh yourself the entire month. Period. It is not about that, it is about being healthy. I am a known rebellious brat though, and I did indeed weigh myself. This morning. Like ten minutes ago. I have lost 6 pounds. In one week. Without starving myself. Seriously. Holy Crap.

And Bacon.

I  can eat bacon. I mean not the Superstore crap bacon, but bacon with no sugar and additives. I know you all thought I was out of my mind before I told you that, didn’t you?

But seriously. Bacon.

I am also very very thankful that I know how to garden, and that my garden is overflowing with deliciousness, it makes eating clean easier when you just have to go outside and pick it.

It is definitely a challenge shopping differently, and Bruce is having a bit of a time with changing his cooking nights to more suit the way I am eating now, but all in all it has been for the better. I feel an incredible difference in my body already, I can’t wait to see the results at the end of the 30 days.

I am also pretty sure that I won’t go back to the way I ate before, although a piece of pie every now and again is totally going to happen.

Basil

That is pretty much the update for the week, if you want to check out the Whole30 program click on the banner below, it took me a long time to finally decide to make the change, but it is like anything, smoking…crack…booze. You have to want the change. I just want to put it out there if you are ready for it. Have a great day everyone and happy nearly summer!!!
