Weekly Money Check-Up

Posted on the 24 January 2011 by Alysonisneat
Friday night, Sam and I went to a benefit show for Nashville Rescue Mission.  We danced. We drank. We socialized. We are hipsters, for sure.
1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on a vacuum cleaner.  I'm 26 years old and have never owned a vacuum cleaner.  My floors were depressingly dirty, so I bought one from Target.  It is yellow and I may take pictures with it.
2. Today I feel fine towards money.  I get paid on Friday, I have a third of my rent stored up from last paycheck.  I paid the equivalent of a student loan payment this month.  I got a deferrment when I lost my job and will have to start making payments again in March.  One of my little goals is to be able to afford those payments.  I also switched to ebills so I can make sure that I get all my bills in one place.  I'm really looking foward to tax refund time.  I did retail therapy last week.  My Friday was going pretty bad.  I forgot my shoes at my house, which means I was going to have to wear my dog-ugly rain boots around the office.  Totally not profresh.  Thankfully, my co-worker is my shoe size and had a pair I could wear.  So, I bought a dress.  And I need to deal with that.
3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free/inexpensive thing I did last week that made me happy was changed my own oil.  Trust me, I wish I could get everyone I know to change their own oil instead of going to some quick change place where they charge you way too much.  I bought my oil and oil filter for $17.99.   It takes less than a half hour to get under the car drain everything and change it all out.  I borrowed the tools from Sam.  I also cleaned my air filter (I have a K&N) and checked all my fluids.  I also made my dad really proud.
4. I will consider this week a success if I start back up on my sewing projects!
5. My favorite way to relax is either yoga, a glass of wine, and/or watching Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations on Netflix.  As crazy as it sounds to excersize as a way to relax, it really is, it is the ultimate anti-stress.  This can also include dancing my tush off like I did on Friday night.
The weekly money check-up is part of a series on My Pretty Pennies.
