We're not even a couple of weeks in, and I'm already beginning to forget the icy bite of New York's winter. Hello spring time. I have waited so long for you. It's been a long time since I've been this excited for a new season to arrive. A fresh beginning, full of new life, new opportunities, and plenty of light and adventure, is upon us. I can feel it in my bones.
We've been testing the waters with Lucien and seeing how he handles being out and about in the city. We'll take him out for a walk here, a lunch break there, and the occasional hours-long marathon of errands. So far, it seems that we've lucked out with a second city kid. He seems to love the noise and the movement and the energy around him. As long as I wear him close and nurse him constantly, this boy of mine is happy. Of course, my experience thus far of taking two babes around town has been with two parents as well to watch over them. Soon I'll muster up the courage to take Biet and Lucien out together on my own, which may be a whole other kind of adventure.
Biet is talking up a storm lately, memorizing everything around her and every word that she hears (for better or worse). She's also blossoming into quite the opinionated girl. She has her favorite everything: favorite parks, favorite foods, favorite songs on favorite albums. She tells me where she wants to go each day and what she wants to do. Her current obsession is swings. She spots them all around the city and directs me towards them when we're out. Give the girl a good push on a swing set, with the wind in her hair and the world flying by below her feet, and she's in heaven.
We welcome you, spring. We welcome your sunny days and brisk nights, your passing rainstorms, and your flowers sprouting in the parks. We welcome the escalating noise and laughter as everyone sheds their layers and takes to the streets. We welcome the open-windowed cafes moving tables out onto the sidewalks, the gatherings on fire escapes, and the re-emergence of street musicians. And we wholeheartedly welcome the lengthening days. Quite a bit of swinging can be done in those few extra hours of daylight.
*I'd like to help spread the word that the lovely Leigh of Sakura Bloom is celebrating the new season and the conclusion of The Sling Diaries Volume II (which I was so honored to be a part of) with a little instagram contest over the next few days. She's giving away 19 slings to her instagram followers. Follow along @lovesakurabloom to win one. She's such an inspiring woman with a great company, and I can personally attest to the amazingness of those slings!
