So this certainly was not a planned post.  You never really intend for a beautiful new dress to meet the horror that is melted wax.  But that is exactly what happened this Saturday.

I was working a wedding that was covered in candles.  It was just as gorgeous as it sounds but unfortunately it also meant that I had to blow out and pack up all of those candles at the end of the night.  With hundreds of candles sprinkled all over the venue, it was only a matter of time before I was covered in wax.

All down the front of my brand new blue dress (and yes, I realized while posting these pictures that this is a little Monica Lewinsky-esque but I swear it’s candle wax).  This was the first time that I had been able to wear this beauty and I wasn’t about to let a little wax ruin it.

With a little google searching, I was able to piece together a strategy to get my dress back to its former beauty.  So to save all of you the time of looking it up, here’s my method for removing wax from your clothes.

How To Get Wax Off Of Clothes 650x325 What Happens When Wax Meets A Brand New Dress

First, do not touch the wax when it initially gets on your clothing. You are only going to make it worse.  Immediately, remove the clothing and put it in the freezer for several hours.

Remove your clothing from the freezer and use a butter knife to scrape off as much wax as you can.

Shake out your clothing to remove those pesky wax remnants that won’t easily rub away.

Now, check the label on your item of clothing to see what temperature iron it can handle.  Then turn your iron onto the highest setting that the label recommends.

While the iron is heating up, stack several paper towels on top of one another and place them inside of the clothing directly underneath the remaining wax.

Once your iron is fully heated, place a paper towel over the top of remaining wax and then place the iron on top of the paper towel for five seconds.

Reposition your paper towel so that a clean portion of it is now sitting over the remaining wax and then replace the iron for another 5 seconds.

Repeat the paper towel/iron combination until you do not see any more wax being soaked up by the paper towel.

Next, if your clothing’s label says it’s okay, wash the garment on the hottest temperature cycle possible.  I used my washing machine’s hot/warm temperature.

Allow your garment to air dry.

And viola, you should be rid of the wax.

I’m happy to report that I was able to restore my blue dress to its former beauty with this easy method.  So if you are freaking out about spilling wax on your brand new dress,  take a deep breath and shove that baby into your freezer immediately icon smile What Happens When Wax Meets A Brand New Dress
