These past few weeks have been really, really good.
Things have been a little on the chaotic side lately, as I transitioned into a new job and navigated all that comes with it. I think I’ve finally hit my stride when it comes to scheduling -when to grocery shop, hit the gym, make lunch, go to sleep- and that’s always been the hardest part for me when it comes to change. Now, there’s been time to see my friends and their mustaches, host dinner for friends, steal away for a weekend trip and celebrate my 25th birthday. And so far, a week in, 25 looks pretty darn good!
Here’s a shortlist of what I’ve been loving lately.
1. It’s Fall! Really and truly. October’s arrived with its usual air of festivity, and no shortage of pumpkin-flavored goodies.
2. Lunches with MVP. One perk of my job is that I work a few short blocks from my mom’s office. Most days, we’ll meet in the park with our brown bag meals. It’s a nice way to break up the day, and a great way to spend time with my favorite lady.
3. Dates with PVP. Earlier this week, my dad and I enjoyed a glamorous evening at Lincoln Center to see the New York City Ballet. There was music by Stravinsky, choreography by Benjamin Millepied (choreographer of Black Swan, husband to Natalie Portman), and costumes by Rodarte. Magical indeed.
4. Reading. Okay, so this isn’t a newfound hobby. However, I just got out of a months-long rut where it seemed I just couldn’t find a book I loved. I’ve had a string of great reads recently, though. I’m almost done with this… the story swept me in and I read it in just a few days!
5. Revenge. The first season is on Netflix, and B and I raced through it. Emily Thorn is a far cry from Everwood‘s Amy Abbott back in the day (did anyone else watch that?), and the show is so, so addicting.
6. Breakfast. Despite our different work schedules, B and I try to eat together in the morning before the craziness of the day invades. I’m spoiled: he usually ends up either making us oatmeal or going out to get bagels. I sweet talk him into going halvsies with me; our latest combinations are pumpernickel with sundried tomato cream cheese and whole wheat everything with vegetable cream cheese. Breakfast of champions!
7. Cozy dinners at home. As the air cools and the days grow shorter, I find myself preparing for “hibernation mode.” I’ve tracked down all my thermal shirts and flannel pants… there’s nothing better than a quiet weeknight meal eaten in your PJs.
8. Endless birthday cake! We’ve been eating this for a week and it’s still going strong. A lot of love went into procuring this pastry; B tracked down the wholesale bakery that makes the treats at our favorite pizza place, ordered one especially for me, and had it driven in all the way from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. After dinner on my birthday, we went over to our friend’s house to “say hi,” where I was surprised with champagne and this beautiful cake. I’m a lucky girl!
