Jared arrived back yesterday from Seattle. He was gone for work and around lunch I picked him from the airport drove him to work and drove back to work myself. We then completed our separate work days and I once again drove to his office and picked him.
Before Jared left for Seattle, I gave him a mission to find me a great souvenir. I didn't give him this mission in hopes that he'd spend a lot of money or get me something extravagant, I basically just wanted something fun from Seattle. It's one of my favorite places. I didn't care if it was a key chain with the space needle on it or a Nirvana CD.
When I picked him up from the airport and drove him to work, he had a bag in that he awkwardly put in the back seat instead of the trunk. He told me it was leads. I obviously didn't think twice about it because it was a work convention and if he had a bag full of business cards, that's his way of organization. He took the bag to work with him.
After work when I picked him up we drove home and talked about his work trip, things he missed and of course, our adorable dogs that missed Jared like crazy. After we got home J brought up the souvenir. He said I'd love it and then he veered the topic to Shane. Shane (our roommate) is a Seattle Seahawks fan, so he told me he bought Shane a beanie and he was stoked to give it to him. I joined in his excitement, but mostly wanted my own present. Shane's cool and all, but gimme my souvenir. J likes this game of seeing how long he can test my excited patience until I flat out just beg.
Right after Shane received his beanie and I begged for my present. J kept getting distracted watching the Seahawks game, making dinner, and other distracting like things. Finally I begged and begged and Jared went out to his car, hid his hands behind his back and went into our master bath and shut the door. About 2 minutes late he reappeared with the bag that had his leads in it. Clearly that wasn't what was really in the bag. I opened it an and about cried. I always cry, but these tears were deserved.
Let me explain. I have been working REALLY hard to pay off my credit card and save up for a DSLR camera. I am so incredibly close to my goal. I have cut back on any and all unnecessary spending, no fall shopping, no lunches with my coworkers, no eating out at all, no target trips, no no no no. Obviously my budget has been working because I'm just about $200 away from paying off my credit card (this budget only started 3 weeks ago) and then I only need to save about $600-$700 for my camera.
Jared obviously was very in-tune with how much this means to me. The mug was a cute gift and I love it more than any space needle key chain and then he put $100 inside of the mug to help me save for the camera. It may sound cheesy, but I'm not using this $100 to pay off my credit card I really want it to go toward the camera which is the end goal here. It's a very romantic gesture, thank you Jared.
What's the best souvenir you've ever received?
