A question that has been thrown often to me as being an Interior Stylist, by my team and my customers - What's new in 2016? What's next in 2016? What's over in 2015? I try to answer a few questions here.

The year 2015 has been definitely a very stylish year and the year 2016 is definitely going to be a real big treat to all. I have compiled my list of the top 10 influences in styling spaces in 2016.

Two Toned Furniture

With Pantone also not shying away from introducing for the first time ever, 2 shades as its "color" of the year, I feel that 2 toned furniture is going to be big time in this year. From cabinets to solid furniture, more people would advent into using 2 complementing tones in their styling. Introduction of a new shade would be done in styling to break the monotony and bring in a little more diversity. To set a pace for moods to play together.

Life getting more stressful and modern homes evolving, a lot of time would be now spent at home. Socialising & dining would happen more within the four walls. Formal areas would be introduced more and concentrated upon. The buzz is going to revolve around the living room and dining area so that it is made more social friendly rather than only being family oriented. Individual family needs to these areas will be redefined. Special attention would be given to these rooms for gatherings.

When we enter a room, our eye is usually drawn to a specific item or area in the space-the space's focal point. If the room has one focal point, you can arrange your furniture around it to create a sense of order in the space. Decorating the room becomes more complex when it has more than one focal point. Fireplace & Fire features would be one of the best solution to create a magical decor. Bespoke, designer and contemporary fireplaces are a perfect answer to this requirement. A fireplace would make a great decor element in any space.

Statement mirrors

A mirror not only serves as an object for checking our appearance, but can also decorate a wall like a painting. The statement mirrors are generally a handcrafted work of art and therefore makes an unmistakeable statement in any room.

Bold panelings

Selenite is a variety of gypsum. which is readily cleaved into natural wands or sheets. It is a very soft stone which can be scratched easily with a fingernail. It is also somewhat flexible and can be bent with gentle pressure, which is why it is sometimes found in curls called ram's horn formations. It is also called Satin Spar at times, though this term is also used for a type of calcite.

The name selenite comes from the Greek word Selene, meaning moon. It has been used for window panes, such as those in Santa Sabina in Rome. The giant crystals in the Naica Cave of Crystals are Selenite Gypsum.

Natural wood, veneers, marble, paints, wall papers, gypsum and the list go on. These have been done to death kind of materials. How about now using selenite for paneling your walls or funiture?
