What to Look for in Stylish Wedding Bands

Posted on the 09 December 2014 by Ellenarnison @Ellen27
Choosing wedding bands is a big decision for any couple planning to get married. After all, these rings are meant to last a lifetime, so it’s a decision that you need to get right. If you’re a man, it’s worth remembering that your wedding band may be the only ring that you'll ever wear so it’s important that you’re happy with what you choose.
The process of finding a suitably functional yet stylish wedding band can be a daunting one. The first step to take is to familiarise yourself with what’s available. Go and visit some jewelry shops in your local town - the Jewellery Quarter has a great selection of stores if you're looking for a wedding band in Birmingham. It’s also useful to go online and read up on the different styles there are to choose from. From flat court, to bevel-edge designs, to concave, there is a whole host of designs out there. Wedding bands also come in a variety of materials, including gold, silver, white gold and platinum.
Bear in mind that style very much depends on the individual. What looks great on you doesn't necessarily look great on your friend. If you see something that you like on someone else, by all means, try it on but remember that it might not look so good on you. Try to keep an open mind throughout the process - look at rings that you know you'll like, as well as ones that wouldn’t usually be your style. You never know, you might be surprised.
What do you like?
While you are browsing, think about the rings you like the look of the most. Do you notice a common theme? Think about the colour, thickness and details. Do the rings you like have any stones? You should also think about how important it is that your and your partner’s rings match? Do you want similar designs or something completely different?
Try, try, try
Once you have an idea of the kind of rings that you like, try a few on. Sometimes what we think will be a look good on us just doesn`t work. Does the color look right with your complexion? Is the style suited to your finger and hand shape, or your style of clothing? Is it very heavy or uncomfortable? Remember, you can always get the actual ring size changed for comfort on your finger (as well as to tighten up loose rings to keep them from falling off).
Think about the future
When you're testing out wedding bands, don't forget that these rings are meant to be worn forever, on any occasion. It is recommended, therefore, that you don't go for anything impractical. Give some thought to how your ring will fit in with your job, your lifestyle and your hobbies.
Choosing wedding bands can be one of the most exciting parts of planning a wedding, so start looking in plenty of time, see what's around, go and enjoy yourself and you'll be sure to find the right ring for you.
