What We Buy on Our Grocery Shop As Vegetarians & Our Meat Free Meal Plan For The Week

Posted on the 05 July 2019 by Alex_bumptobaby @bumptobaby_blog
Over on my YouTube channel I often share our weekly meat free meal plans alongside our vegetarian grocery shopping hauls and I seem to get quite a lot of people saying how much they enjoy them and requesting more.
I know that not everyone watches YouTube and some people prefer to read blog posts especially those of you who've got a sleeping baby/child on you who you'd rather not wake and so I thought this week I would share our meal plan and veggie grocery shop here on my blog also.
We always aim to cook at least 2-3 meals a week from scratch and we always tend to eat a lot of pasta, as we're pasta mad in our house. We have quite a few recipe cards from places like Hello Fresh and Gousto form when we've had meals and recipes delivered to the house before. We also use our Quorn recipe book a lot (although we're not cooking anything from it this week).
Below you will find our meal plan for this week alongside some photos of our weekly shop for this week too. We aren't loyal to any supermarket in particular, but we often order our groceries from Tesco as we like the convenience of having our shopping delivered. But we often will venture out and go to Aldi, where we usually find quite a variety for vegetarians for a really food price too.
Please note that I have worked with Tesco, Gousto and Passage to Asia in the past - however this blog post is not an AD and is not in collaboration. I have bought everything myself and am reusing the recipe cards from Gousto because we enjoy the meals so much. And the same goes for the Passage to Asia sauce, we continue to buy it because we like it so much.
MONDAYPasta with cheese sauce with chopped tomatoes and grated cheese. (Cheese sauce sachets are from the Co-Op - they come in an orange packet).

THURSDAYTomato & Mascarpone sauce from Tesco with pasta (Our Thursday meal tradition)
FRIDAYPassage to Asia Satay Sauce with meat free chicken pieces (from Tesco own brand). Chopped peanuts crushed on top with grated carrot and red pepper. Served with jasmine rice, tomato and cucumber. SATURDAYOne-Pot Puttanesca - https://www.gousto.co.uk/cookbook/vegetarian-recipes/simple-one-pot-puttanesca
SUNDAYQuorn Pies (already in the freezer), potatoes and vegetables (already had the bits for this in).
These pasta sauces from Tesco are our absolute favourites - we've been buying them every week for about 10 or so years now. We have them every single Thursday with pasta and it's become a bit of a tradition for us.

Some of the fruits and veggies we've bought for meals this week.

Just to show you visually, these are the recipes we're using this week. Whenever we get a Gousto or Hello Fresh box delivered, we just keep hold of the recipe cards and buy the ingredients again to remake the meals that we enjoy.

We've bought quite a few soups for lunch this week. I'm really enjoying the Heinz Soup's of the Day - Green garden vegetable is my favorite.

Some of the boys snacks and lunchbox bits - they love the Soreen lumnchbox loaves which you can get in banana or apple flavor. They also love raisins. The Quorn cocktail sausages and picnic eggs make for a great snack full of protein.

We bought a few ready to go treats also as we're going for a picnic on Saturday. Above is some of what we'll take with us.

Every week I buy myself two cartons of soya milk. I consume dairy but I prefer to drink soya milk. The Tesco Unsweetened soya milk is one of my favourites - I really like it in tea and on cereal. It doesn't work very well in coffee, but I don't drink coffee because I suffer with reflux so that's fine.

For Friday's meal this is the sauce we will be having. It's the best satay sauce I've tasted! We have it with meat free pieces (Tesco own brand) but you could use Quorn pieces if you preferred or even tofu. We'll have some grated carrot, pepper, crushed peanuts and then jasmine rice, tomato and cucumber on the side. It's so tasty and depending on the meat free pieces you use, can be totally vegan as well.

Please let me know if you enjoy this sort of post and if you'd be interested in more veggie related blog posts in the future. Also, I'd love to know your favorite meat free meals, so please do let me know in the comment section below.
