You might recall some of the notes I have written concerning the tendency I observe in fine-smokers to pay close attention to the way in which their tobacco burns and the elegance they show while smoking. Some seem to have a high level of appreciation for such an old and simple activity. During the presentation of a new pipe tobacco mixture from Christopher McGrath at Nat Sherman, I witnessed such an attentive young soul.
In the several conversations he instigated – some merely exchanged sentences – I sensed a strong need to express his indulgence in perception. In the tone of his voice there was a sense of urgency, giving a certain timber which intertwined with his choice of words and his facial expressions, some of which I perceived with a layer of nervousness or insecurity. Still, nothing seemed to hinder him in his desire to share his joy in smoking.
