This post wasinspired an event that happened a few weeks back. The hubs and I aretrying to spend some quality time with our kids as a family as well as one onone attention.  Remember when I posted afew weeks back that I practically lived at the office, well, as a thank you forworking so hard, they gave us all Friday off. I decided to take the lil lady to Disneyland for a mommy/daughter daywhere she got a whole day of my full attention. We got up atebreakfast, said our goodbyes to daddy and the lil man and headed off.The hubs and I textedthroughout the day checking in and giving status reports and we decided itwould be extra special to have them meet us for dinner there. The lil lady and Iwere sitting on Main Street waiting for the parade that she was beyond excitedto see and I got a text from the hubs “heading over, text you when we get there”So naturally we saton the curb, eating our chocolate covered pretzels thinking everything washunky dorey...My phone went off...thetext from the hubs said “we are here”And then my phonefroze.

I couldn’t text backI couldn’t callI shut it down andrestarted it about 3 timesI cancelled ALL of myappsMy battery wasdrainingStill nothingThe parade wasstarting...I was panicking...The lil lady was upset with me because I made herleave our perfect spots on Main Street to head to the nearest pay phoneThey didn’t workTried my cellagain...still nothing....completely useless....So we made it toGuest RelationsAnd I am all shakenup and a messThey dial the hubsnumber for me and sure enough....VOICEMAIL!!!They dialagain....busy signal....So we sat on the stepsat Guest Relations and waited. The lil lady watchedthe parade while I continued to search through the masses of peopleAs the parade wascoming to an endI saw them!!!They were on theirway out....Turns out I got the “weare here” text about 30 minutes after he sent it so we spent a grueling 1.5hours going through this chaos!!!!Later we found outthat Sprints network was down – nothing we could have done about it..his phone wasn’tworking either...and it wasn’t the actual phones...it was the network.Talk about crummytiming. And naturally boththe hubs and I were grumpy after meeting up

It made me thinkWe definitely need a backupplan (which we now have)Why do we trusttechnology? Why is it that we letthese handheld devices have so much power?I remember how itused to be – “we will meet you at Carnation Café at 430pm”
DONE.
No phones to rely on.You just met when yousaid you would meet.SIMPLE.I like that simplerlife.I need to stop dependingon my Smart phone ALL the timeBecause it turns out theyhave their dumb moments too!
Thanks for listeningto my rant...has anything like this ever happened to you?
