When the Universe is Busy Taking Notes #Gratitude

Posted on the 28 May 2015 by Vidyasury @vidyasury

Have you ever yearned for something and wished it would happen? Of course you have. So have I. As a little girl, I believed my Grandma when she said that my guardian angel was always perched on my shoulder , listening to my thoughts. Of course I asked her if it was my left or right and she said right - and I took her word for it. She advised me to think positive, good thoughts as often as possible. Which made me guilty when I had a nasty thought. However. The concept grew on me. I won't lie and say I always had good thoughts, but I was certainly conscious ...most of the time, anyway.

There were times when things went wrong in series and during those times, I had my Mom to hug me and say "This too shall pass". She was a solid believer in the silver lining and made one out of me as well! Good thing, too. I've tried to imbue the same attitude in my son.

I have learned that gratitude dissolves negativity. When the Universe is Busy Taking Notes #Gratitude

When I think back over the years today, I can't help but smile at the number of occasions when I received the things I wished for. Some were later than sooner, but the point is, it happened. Hope is a great thing.

Now, in recent times, I've experienced this more often than I expected. For example, a trip I wished for, a work assignment I was keen on, an oven I wished for, a camera I coveted - and other fairly simple things.

Each time I flip through my gratitude journal, my heart is filled with happiness. I always remember my Mom's words - she would keep saying that if her life ended that minute, she would go happily. I am not large hearted enough to say that yet, but I know I'll get there at some point and I know what she meant.

I have to admit that I love it when the Universe is taking notes - it inspires me to be positive and approach life with a smile! I consider myself blessed and feel grateful for the eventful month that has gone by.

- each item is no less wonderful than the other!

When the Universe is Busy Taking Notes #Gratitude
  • Exactly a month ago, on April 29, I met His Holiness The Dalai Lama. What an experience. And yes, I am still writing that dedicated post to describe how it happened. I am so grateful - I wished and it happened.
  • Books I've been yearning to read and received. I am a book addict. You know that. My library grows on a daily basis. I have enough books to last me a lifetime, yet I am never satisfied. A book is literally a mini vacation to me and I am happiest when I am reading at least 3 at a time.
  • The much awaited Grade 12 exam results were announced on May 25 and my son got good results. So grateful, as this will determine his eligibility for admission into one of the top institutes into a course he likes. Keeping fingers crossed.
  • My heart sings to think of how my friend rushed over as soon as she heard with a pack of ice-cream, just as she promised, to celebrate.
  • Last week, I accompanied my son for an entrance exam. The venue was quite far off and it wasn't feasible to commute home and back - so I decided to wait there, catch up on my reading or stroll around the area and maybe finish some shopping. I had the pleasure of meeting three women who had also accompanied their sons and daughter - and we had a wonderful time hanging out together. We exchanged numbers and are now in touch. I love it when I meet people and just click - as if our souls were waiting for each other!
  • Out of the blue, a couple of weeks ago, a blogger emailed me to say how much she enjoyed my blog and has been following it for years no - and could we meet? I invited her for a cuppa and she came home. We had a very pleasant afternoon!
  • Then, last Saturday, I had a fun experience at the spa where I attended the launch of Nioxin, treatment for thinning hair in India and experienced the product.
  • I've been spending a lot of time in my kitchen trying out new recipes. The current hits are apple pies and apple crumble, and cheesecake. Yes, my folks are happy. I am grateful that they appreciate home-made so much!
  • I had a fantastic surprise yesterday. My phone rang. It was an old friend who said he had a surprise for me. Turned out to be a mutual friend I had lost touch with for a while. Both these guys are childhood friends and talking to them was super! I met them in the early 1970s, when I was in Grade 8 and we practically grew up together. We were one big gang of bum-chums. What joy it was to enjoy a marathon conversation on the phone with promises to meet when we're in each others' cities! I went to sleep with a huge grin - thinking of those days when we'd measure the width of our bell-bottomed pants to see whose was the widest, the weird hair-dos and all those fun times we spent together.

Oh I am sure I left out so many things! There were some low points too when my blood sugar danced a merry dance but hey, I am focusing on the silver linings and am grateful!
