When Writing Affects You Emotionally

Posted on the 14 April 2014 by Bren Lee @JustBrenLee

Has your writing ever affected you emotionally?

Has a story you’re writing caused sadness, depression, or even dredged up old memories?

I have been writing my first short story, Betrayed, and it’s affecting me emotionally. Betrayed is near and dear to my heart because I actually lived something similar to this short. By writing it thus far, I have found myself slipping back into bad memories and thus affecting my state of mind.

I need to let the story sit for a while. I need to get a better grip on my emotions before I can write additional parts. I thought writing the short story was going to be therapeutic, however, I don’t think I’m ready yet.

Have you ever been affected by one of your short stories?

If so, how did you handle it?

I have a couple other stories on the back burner so I’ll begin publishing them until I am ready to dive back into Betrayed.

Thank you for supporting my writing journey. Your encouragement means so much to me.

Thank you,

BLee
