Where Do You Live?

Where do you live?

I have been struggling with a few things the past ten days. So I did the obvious thing to help my mind get sorted out, which is, deal with clutter. Somewhere in my mind I aim to clear out all the extras before this year ends. Oh yes, I've been thinking that for several years now, but then, life is not static. Like it or not, things that take years and decades to accumulate cannot be cleared out quickly. There's also the issue of lethargy. I start, take a few steps, slow down, stagnate, get distracted... you know the drill.

So, anyway, I thought some purging, cleaning, donating, disposing would help me regain my balance. Alas, this was not to be.

The fact that I cleaned out my kitchen itself should have had me leaping with joy.

I was happy yes, but not excited.

Then I cleaned the living room. Purged extra stuff. Still not the reaction I expected from me.

I didn't feel like turning on my laptop to work.

I am thinking, what's happening?

Sury teased me, asking what's up, considering birthday month and all. I am the kind of childlike person who comes up with a zillion ideas and things to do during this time.

Then I came across this beautiful piece by Sandeep Atre titled "Homing in"

He wrote that we don't live in bungalows, duplexes or flats. We live in our minds.

How true! I found this quite profound and just what I wanted to hear at this point.

When we throw out physical clutter, we clear our minds.
When we throw out mental clutter, we clear our souls.

Our minds are our permanent residence with no constraints that can be measured in square feet. This is a vast limitless space.

No matter how well we organize our rooms, balconies, garages...life is good only when things are sorted in our minds.

Our minds is where we keep things messy.

Regrets piling up in one corner.

Expectations stuffed in a closet.

Secrets under the carpet.

Worries littered everywhere.

Comparisons spilt on the table.

Complexes leaking from an old bottle.

Grudges stinking in a box...

We have to be mindful of this "real home" of ours, because this is one housekeeping we cannot outsource. We have to do it ourselves.

Where do you live?

With renewed energy, I resumed clearing my clutter, this time with focus.

My mind calmed down, somewhat.

Not saying everything is okay yet, but my world is on its way to become alright again.

"Clutter is not just in your home, attic, garage or office. Clutter is also in your mind, and distracts you from the amazing things you are meant to do"

Isn't that true?
