Who Belongs Here? A Bold Request for Your Input

Posted on the 13 October 2014 by Juliejordanscott @juliejordanscot

I need your help in making a creative decision.

Tell me: Who of the women in the images below belongs here, on this mixed media canvas, ready for the final portrait to be added as the final layer?

My original thought was Helen Keller with Martha Graham and dancers. Then I thought of copyright issues. Then I thought I might attempt to the replicate the sixty year old photo in ink.

A circle of legendary women.

Then  I thought, "Maybe go for an uncopywrited image. A woman from longer ago. A lesser known woman." My heart thought of Josephine Preston Peabody, one of my favorite unknown literary grannies. I've worked with her in mixed media before, after all.

Finally, I wondered if maybe Ina Coolbrith, first poet laureate of California and influencer of many including Isadora Duncan and Jack London would be the right choice.

Her image is below, with yellow, next to - do you recognize her now? -  Josephine Preston Peabody.

The photo was taken when I did a presentation at Bakersfield Museum of Art.  Included is a lovely model holding images of lovely women.

So here's where you come in.

Please suggest which of these images I should include in the mixed media canvas. Simply tell me what your heart and spirit tell you fits the best.

I can't guarantee I'll go with what the most people say or my favorite, I may go someplace entirely different.

I simply know it feels good to ask the question and then pray you will respond with your thoughts and suggestions.
