If you haven't already seen the new video from Dove featuring 'Real Beauty Sketches' - then I really recommend that you do. It's prompted some mixed opinions, but I loved the motive behind it, and that it reinforced the message that we're far to harsh on our own looks and features.
"Women are their own worst beauty critics. Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful. At Dove, we are committed to creating a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. So, we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see."
I thought it was such a lovely concept and method of spreading an uplifting message. So, as-you-do I rushed to share it on Facebook and didn't quite get the reaction I expected. So I went back to re-watch it "Never mind Dove-advert - I still love you."

I don't like how it insinuates that beauty is paramount, and that being conventionally beautiful is the be-all and end-all. There is also the whole lack of varied cultures and ages being represented, but you guys? This is an advert! For Dove!
Of course it's going to pander to their target audience. It's going to feature women that fit their clientele and they are going to complain about physical features, like crows legs, because they sell anti-wrinkle creams.
I really do believe that as with most things, you get what you take from it. There's always going to be something to criticise, but the message that we could all do with being a little kinder to ourselves is an important one to take home.
