Why Evil Looks So Good…

One of my new favorite shows is Once Upon a Time.  Like all little girls, I grew up reading about fairy tales and sighing over the Prince Charming scenes.  However, unlike other little girls, I think the evil characters are much more interesting.  What makes them so mean?  Why do they do the things they do? And why do they get the better costumes?  You know the black outfit the Evil Queen wore in the last episode called True North was sweet…umm, well to say the least.  Ha.  It was the Hansel and Gretel episode.

Okay, so other than the fact that I love the outfits worn by the Evil Queen, I also love the character Rumpelstiltskin, played by Robert Carlyle.  I find myself wondering how much he really knows, and I am curious to know if what he does changes what is happening in the sleepy town of Storybrooke.  Because I am also a big fan of the 1986 movie Labyrinth, I started to let my mind wander during tonight’s episode of Once Upon a Time as I saw Rumpelstiltskin appear out of the mist.  He reminded me of Jareth, the Goblin King, and his outfit was no less spectacular.  From the glittery skin, pointy collared outfit, and tight-fitting pants I suddenly realized the evil characters always impress me.

It’s not the clothes that make the err, man/woman/gnomish thing, but the way the character carries himself while in those clothes.  They act like they already know what is about to happen and the confidence they exude is part of the allure.  So if you haven’t already seen this series, watch it and see for yourself.
