Why is It Important to Have Breakdown Cover?

A few years ago I had my car 'fixed' at a garage, later that day my now Husband and I went out of town for a late meal and a movie. On driving back, in what was a pitch black country road, our in car lights went completely out. At that point we did not know how fast we were driving and couldn't see any of the important in car dials that as drivers we rely on. Luckily, we were very close to my Aunties, so we pulled in to her lane and stopped the car. At the time, we had no breakdown cover.. Big mistake. We had to pay out for emergency breakdown cover, and wait for hours for someone to arrive, to fix the car.
A few years have passed since then and now we always ensure that we are covered and we now have a brilliant deal with a different company for Breakdown cover from the AA, which I wouldn't be without, so renew every year! Especially so now that we have a baby, as breaking down with him in the car and no breakdown cover would be an actual disaster!
So is it important to be covered for potential breakdowns? Of course it is. For as low as £28 a year for roadside cover with the AA, in my opinion, it's money well spent for the peace of mind that such a low cost offers!
Have you ever broken down in your car? Do you think it's important to have breakdown cover?
