Why Reinvent the The Guiro Wheel?

Hi all!  Happy Tuesday!  It is time for another Top 10 Tuesday musical lesson for you to try at home with your children.

I never believe in reinventing the wheel, and often times, I find my lesson plan ideas online.  There are so many great music educators out there, and the internet enables us to see what everyone else is doing in their classrooms.  The internet is an excellent sharing tool, and this week, I found a great lesson for the guiro.

Here is a picture of a traditional guiro.

They are available for purchase online.  Click HERE to go to a link for a guiro on Amazon.com.

I found this guiro activity on a religious music site called “Making Music Praying Twice”  A Musical Pathway to G-d.”  The activity, however, has no religious content, and I think they did an excellent job demonstrating how a guiro is to be played, information about the guiro and a great guiro listening activity.

So, this week’s Top 10 Tuesday is just sharing a great activity from another site that would be wonderful to experience with your children at home.  CLICK HERE to go to “Making Music Praying Twice’s” website and check it out.  Enjoy!
