World Blood Donor Day....Save A Life Today

Childbirth is something that most of my readers have or will experience during their lifetime.
Of course everybody fears it a little, but we all know that at the end of it we get to become Mummies and spend our lives loving our little ones.
Complications during childbirth...you hear those words, but you think "That will never happen to me".
But what if it did.
When I gave birth via c-section, I lost a lot of blood and was left with extreme anemia for months afterwards.
I thought that was difficult enough...but what if it had been worse? What if I had lost more blood?
Did you know that the leading cause of death during childbirth is blood loss?
For too many families it is still happening....women are dying from blood loss during childbirth, and leaving babies to grow up without them.
And to think that we....Me, You, everybody out there....could prevent these deaths by something as simple as donating blood?
14th June is World Blood Donor Day and Benenden have run a surveytohelp understand common misconceptions and feelings around giving blood and why people may choose not to do it.
I used to donate blood regularly (Until I was put onto medication which made me unsuitable to continue) and it was the easiest thing to do - it took very little time and was as simple and painless as a needle in the arm, a chat with a nurse and a biscuit afterwards!
And from an act that simple....lives could literally be changed, prolonged or even saved entirely.
Did you know that each pint of donated blood can help THREE people in need of it? Did you know that over 25% of us will need donated blood at some point in our lives?
If you have given blood, take to Twitter and use the hashtag #GaveBlood and let's help to raise the profile of World Blood Donor Day as much as possible!
