The Internet is cruel, I don’t think there is much debate on that issue anymore. Unfortunately for people trying to make it big on the Internet, you either become accidentally viral or you struggle to the top post by post or video by video. I can assure you I did not become instantly viral by any means. I am still slowly struggling for page views to really give my blog the momentum to get huge readership. But what about those bloggers that give up or the ones that are forced to quit? What ever happened to them?
If the statistics are right, then almost 95% of blogs in existence are ghost town blogs that no longer get posted on. Considering there are anywhere between 200 and 450 million English language blogs out there, there might be over 400 million abandoned pages that the Internet leaves in the basement to rot. So for those of you keeping score at home, I apparently have roughly a 5% chance of keeping my blog running… great odds.
With the Internet being as weird as it is, there are blogs about abandoned blogs (total blog-ception), there are ways to claim abandoned blogs, and, even better yet, there are entire websites dedicated to showing you how to make money off the abandoned blogs. Leave it to the Internet to turn everything into a get rich quick scheme. But truthfully it isn’t just bloggers that abandon their work. There are a huge number of vloggers, website creators, webshow hosts, and even scammers and spammers that give up. It is hard to get started on the internet with how competitive it is.
So let me just say that there really are a limited number of viewers on the internet, and capturing their attention is not exactly easy. Finding your place and hunkering down to try to be successful is the name of the game these days, and thankfully my readers are amazing, and they keep coming back!
