101 in 1001: the First 31 Days

Posted on the 31 January 2013 by Kcsaling009 @kcsaling

Hi all, and happy Thursday! I can’t believe we’re almost through with January! It’s been an amazingly full and rich month, and since it’s my first month of my 101 things in 1001 days, I’d like to recap just how I did:

#1. Come up with 101 things1 Jan 2013.As I mentioned, this was a lot harder than I thought it would be, mostly because I really wanted to do a good job and come up not just with a laundry list of things to do, but a list of things that would help me genuinely improve my marriage, my career, my happiness, and my life. I’m still very happy with my list.

#2. Pass it on – inspire someone else to come up with their 101 things24 Jan 2013. Karen read my 101 in 1001 and decided to do her own – and knocked it out of the park! I’m amazed at some of the things my sister is going to do, but these are my personal favorites {and ones I totally wish I included!!} – do a mud run, do a color run, take a cake decorating class, visit Sweden to explore family roots, take a fencing class. Fencing? Awesome!!! I hope more people will take the 101 in 1001 challenge and keep inspiring us all.

#3. Make my NYC bucket list {of things to do before we leave New York}17 Jan 2013. I spent some serious time with the guidebooks and online and talking to the hubby and we decided that these were 25 things we needed to do before we left New York this summer. We’ve already knocked several off the list in the past couple of weekends, and I’m enjoying the adventure!

#6. Unsubscribe from all those catalogs I never read11 Jan 2013. I was so happy to discover Catalog Choice and start unsubscribing from all the magazines and catalogs that I never read. Less junk mail, less wasted paper, less hassle! Even though some of them are taking a while to remove me from their mailing lists, I’m very happy not getting so much clutter. Check out my post on going green – and homage to Pantone’s color of the year!

#15. Launch an interview series on one of my blogs22 Jan 2013. I launched “Living YOUR Happy Ever After” on 22 January, and I’ve had so many positive responses that I regret not doing something like this earlier! I have several more interviews in the chute, so stay tuned for more inspiring interviews with folks who have made their dreams happen or who have big dreams and are working to make them happen!

#19. Write a guest blog23 Jan 2013. I wrote a guest blog on creating visual content that filled a couple of firsts – it was my first guest post and the first post Karen has hosted on her blog after seven years of blogging! It was a fun experience for both of us. It’s prompted me to seek out more guest blogging opportunities {I have more coming in the next month!} and Karen’s going to host more guest bloggers!

#21. Organize the blogs I read into a readerDate. You might have missed this one, because I published a short piece on the benefits of Bloglovin‘ and other blog readers on my professional blog, System Dynamics. That’s where I store my mathematics, social network, and social media how-to’s, so if any of that interests you, head on over and check it out!

#84. Go to a book signing24 Jan 2013. This is just one way my 101 in 1001 list has opened my eyes to all the opportunities around me, just waiting to be grabbed. I’ve wanted to go to a book signing and engage authors in conversation about them, their writing, life, the universe and everything, so I started scanning the academy bookstore’s newsletter – and lo and behold, one of my favorite authors was coming to visit! So not only did I get a signed book and a picture with Bob Mayer, but I had a goodly amount of time to chat with him about his time as a cadet, his time in the special forces, and what kind of crazy things drove him to write such a wonderfully wide variety of books! And…oh no, I discovered he’s teaching an on-line writing workshop!! Maybe it’s time for #49 to bite the dust, too!!

I’ve got other goals in the works that are going really well, like my postcards, recipes, and organization. I’m signed up to take a photography course, to run a half-marathon for charity, and I’m saving like a madwoman. That’s really been the biggest discovery – I managed to sock away $800 this month and I didn’t even know I had $800 to sock away!

So far, my 101 in 1001 has been a hugely rewarding experience, and I’ve only just gotten started! I can’t wait to see what kind of adventures I can have over the next few months of tackling my goals!

If you’ve got goals, start or share your 101 in 1001!

:) KCS
