A Day In The Life – Monday

Winding Road

This week I am going to be giving you a glimpse of my life from Monday to Friday in an average week.  I don’t usually write general update posts, I tend to wait for “something” to happen or write about a particular event etc, so hopefully this is something fresh and new interesting for you all. Or maybe my life is boring as batshit. If so, I apologise!

I’d like to take credit for this idea but I can’t because it wasn’t me at all. For this I’m linking up with the lovely Kerry over at Winding Road. She was the bright spark that came up with the idea and deserves ALL the credit. You can read all about how she came up with it here. It’s actually a pretty awesome post about blogging even without the crazy idea at the end so have a squiz.  Anyway this is my first ever link up so if I totally fuck it up then sorry about that. I’ll do my best to get it right.

Oh and one more thing. This is actually a day in my life based on last week and I’ve scheduled the posts for this week. Why? Well this week I am off galavanting around the USA and feeling totally traumatised about being separated from my two year old for 2 whole weeks. There’s probably been a post about that by now too.  Have a great week and happy reading!

PS. You can do this too! Just write your posts and link back to Kerry. And leave me a comment so I know to go and read it.

Monday

Well today wasn’t your average Monday to be honest as today I woke up at the Novotel Twin Waters Resort on the Sunshine Coast. We had a short 2 night break there over the weekend. Monday morning was less than exciting as it was pack and go day. Usually though we’d be waking up at home with a plan free day.

The view from our digs.

Monday’s for us are usually kept free of any sort of regular schedule. We use them to do whatever it is we feel like. Often I will try to organise a play date for Monkey or we’ll go up to the park or, now that the weather is getting really warm, we might swim at the creek. We try to be a bit footloose and fancy free.

This particular Monday morning was mostly spent driving home.  I managed to keep Monkey awake almost all the way home so had the bonus of transferring him straight to bed when we arrived back at about 12:30pm. He was exhausted from our holiday and slept like a log. I actually had to wake him at 3:30pm as I was worried he wouldn’t go to bed easily in the evening (he didn’t anyway).

While he slept I did lots of boring stuff (like unpack and do the dishes) but  also wrote last weeks blog about stuff my kid will never do.

I was toying with the idea of going to gym post naptime but then we were invited by a friend to join her and her boys at the park and I thought, what the hell. That seems like more fun than the gym right? So we did that instead. Monday is normally a running day but I didn’t have time before we left the resort so I’m missing that a bit.

Tonight was an easy dinner. I have prepared spaghetti mince in the fridge for lazy nights so that’s what Monkey got. It’s his favourite so as far as he was concerned dinner was a win.   We usually eat together at around 6ish, he has a bath at around 6:15pm and then he watches In the Night Garden with his bottle from 6:30-7. I tried to get him to have his milk out of a cup (as that’s what he did on holiday) but he wasn’t having a bar of it. Oh well. We can wean later.

We wind down for the last half hour, brush teeth and then it’s into bed no later than 7:30.  I generally read about 3 books and then it’s lights out. Tonight was actually a difficult night and required my attention (read presence in the room) for almost an hour. I’m going to be working on improving this over the next week. It may even mean that he goes to bed by 715 to get the winding down in bed he needs.  Actually, I’m going to try that on Tuesday. I’ll fill you in tomorrow.

After bedtime I treated myself to a favourite TV show and an icecream, replied to blog comments and then went to bed around 10:30pm. That’s actually late for me. I’d regret it too as it wasn’t a smooth night here. More on that tomorrow…

Best part of today? Monkey had a 3 hour sleep. Don’t judge me.
