A Lover

Here I stand in the balcony, with my hands gripping on to the railing. As I stood here, seeing the sky change its colour, I drift off to a different place just to remember something familiar.

I drifted to the time when you came to see me. A time that I haven’t had the guts to remember for quite a long time. Oh how we walked and sat on that bench, watching the sun set while you held me in your arms. It was all so perfect back then.
But then the memory ended with the noise of the door opening. I didn’t turn back because I was busy looking at the sky or maybe was too weak to turn around after that flashback. A few moments later, a hand griped me by my waist and gave a kiss on my cheek. I turned just to see him smiling and I smiled back, forgetting everything that I remembered a moment back.

I knew in that moment that the past might have seemed perfect but it was this moment that was actually perfect. I realized that someone saying ‘I love you’ every other time doesn’t always mean it, it’s the ones who without even saying it makes you feel that they actually do and that is what actually matters.

I realized that you might have left me broken but this person, the love of my life stayed with me through thick and thin. Even when I couldn’t love myself, he chose to love me and that is what marks the difference between loving someone and being a lover. You might love someone but to be able to stick with them always, holding them tighter and closer when they are falling, is what makes you a lover.
