So I was called for an ice-cream tasting session. It was a hot afternoon and I surely could do with some AC and and some icecream too. Two things hit me instantly when I entered Hokey Pokey ice cream parlor in Kandivali, Mumbai.
First, their seating, though minimal but extremely interesting piece of work. You would feel as if you are going to sit on the ice-cream bars. it was colored that way and shaped too. Second thing was an interesting video which was going on in the TV set. In that video two Hokey Pokey guys were doing some bizarre dance! Slowly I figured that they are actually playing with a ice-cream ball! Amusing? Yes, indeed but after a while it became boring. So that drove my fickle attention to other details of the store.
The look and feel of the store is totally for kids! You can see shades and pink and blue around you. Cartoon characters coming out of the walls. Which I have not seen in any other ice-cream joints.
Ok, now straightaway let’s talk about the flavors it offers. They seem to be in an experimentation mode. Quite a lot appeared was new. What appeared unique and novel to me was their mix of ice-creams with traditional Indian sweets! Specially for Navratras and the festive season. Not that we have not tried earlier. Someone like me who loves his hot gulabjamuns with vanilla ice-creams. Or hot piping jalebis with either vanilla or frozen yoghurt! But this was surely different!
However, two flavors, one green apple and another chocolate one I liked the most. The green apple was refreshingly new taste in ice-creams. No overpowering mixtures. A smooth fresh experience for sure. The chocolate one was also beautifully mixed too. Other flavors were either too sweet or too overpowering for me.To sum it up, it was a good experience visiting the store. They do have something new to offer.
