Twitter welcomed another VIT (Very Important Tweeter) today when the POTUS himself got his very own account (aptly named, @POTUS).
If you’re thinking this is old news, President Obama has had a Twitter account for years, he even signs his tweets “BO.” Well then, you would be correct.
Barack Obama (@BarackObama) does already have a Twitter account; however, this new account is for the Office not the person, as the President explained in his third tweet:
Good question, @billclinton. The handle comes with the house. Know anyone interested in @FLOTUS?

Good to know, right?
The POTUS Twitter handle will only be used by the current President of the United States, and any tweets made from that account are presumed to be from the man (or possibly woman…someday) himself. It’s a nice thought, and makes the Office seem more accessible and human.
Just don’t think about the fact that @POTUS has been online for less than 24 hours, and has had time to tweet three times already. Hopefully, we can chalk up the number of tweets to first day Twitter jitters.
