Happy Emmy Sunday!
This year the Emmy’s return to their rightful place on Sunday night. You may recall last year the VMAs and NFL booted the Emmy Awards to Monday night.
This year Andy Sandberg will be hosting, and we will be resisting the urge to make any comments about the number of white, male, comedians that have hosted in recent years.
It should be a fun night of television that 2WC will unfortunately will not be viewing live. Life is full of difficult choices and the Emmy’s got the short end of the stick. If only they had been pushed to Monday (too soon?).
Now, if you think that’s going to stop us from sharing our four cents on the nominees, then just walk away from this post now, and you can keep on thinking you’re right.
The rest of you, here are our picks:
Outstanding Comedy Series:
Zer:
- Will Win: “Parks and Recreation” — Okay, I know there’s a good chance that “Modern Family” will make history with their 6th consecutive win, but I have to hold out hope for Amy Poehler’s hilarious little-show-that-could.
- Should Win: “Parks and Recreation” — It blows my mind that Parks and Rec has not won an Emmy during its 7 seasons. They deserve all the Emmys, but one will do.
Stephanie:
- Will Win: “Parks and Recreation”—It’s the final season of this incredible show. Give them the top honor already!
- Should Win: “Parks and Recreation” — Seriously guys, make it happen.
Outstanding Drama Series:
Zer:
- Will Win: “Mad Men” — This is the show’s final season. It was a game changer both for AMC and television dramas. It’s essentially unbeatable.
- Should Win: “Mad Men” — Sure, it had its ups, downs, and writer walk-outs, but they managed to go out with the same style the show started with. They deserve this win.
Stephanie:
- Will Win: “Mad Men”— I’m more than a little up in the air about this category, but I think nostalgia for this now finished show may win out, that or spillover “Breaking Bad” love will get “Better Call Saul” the top prize.
- Should Win: “Game of Thrones”— Winter is coming (for real this time guys) and the journey has been incredible…Do it for Jon Snow.
Outstanding Limited Series (formerly known as the Mini-Series):
Zer:
- Will Win: “Wolf Hall” — This is the only one I’ve seen in its entirety, so it would be disingenuous to choose any of the others. Plus, it’s a PBS show, and I can’t turn down an opportunity to spread a little Public Broadcasting Service love.
- Should Win: “Wolf Hall” — Please see my previous comments, and yay PBS!
Stephanie:
- Will Win: “Olive Kitteridge”— Call me disingenuous if you must, but I have to admit, I haven’t seen most of these, but I’ve heard all of the buzz around this mini-series, and it seems like a likely contender.
- Should Win: “Wolf Hall”— Like I said, I’ve seen very few of these, and this is one of the lucky few, and I do love a good historical drama.
Outstanding Variety Series (Talk):
Zer:
- Will Win: “Late Show with David Letterman” — It’s David Letterman, and it’s his last season.
- Should Win: “Late Show with David Letterman” — Please see my previous comments.
Stephanie:
- Will Win: “The Daily Show” or “The Colbert Report” or “Late Show with David Letterman”— I want to commit to “The Colbert Report,” it was its final season, but Jon Stewart had to leave “The Daily Show,” and David Letterman retired, throwing this whole category into a whirlwind. Usually I’d go with: whichever doesn’t win for Variety Series will go home with the writing statuette, but a three-way tie throws a wrench in that cop-out.
- Should Win:“The Daily Show” or “The Colbert Report” or “Late Show with David Letterman”— Can someone just toss a three-sided coin?
