Another Year Older…

Posted on the 09 November 2011 by Drowqueen @theburnedhand

I read a quote that said “Every year on your birthday, you get a chance to start new.”  And while I love Sammy Hagar, I am glad I don’t have to start some things over if I don’t want to.  There are certain things in life that get better with age.  Friendship…like fine wine, gets better.  After you have gotten over the initial awkward stage, you should be able to feel free to say things to your true friends you would not say to other people.  There is a certain comfort zone there.  I am very comfortable around my friends and they know that.  I am truly thankful they don’t mind me telling them how I see it, and I would want the same from them.

My relationship with my husband is another thing that I would not start over.  It’s nice to be able to come home and know when I need him, he will be there for me.  Maybe not always in quite the way I expected or thought I needed at the time, but he knows me well enough to nudge me in the right direction.  There are times when knowing someone too well can backfire on them, but I won’t go there right now.  It’s enough to know that he means well.

I would not change my family.  Sometimes, they can drive me crazy with their unconventional ways and bizarre sayings, but that’s what makes it so great.  I must always go out the same door I come in when I go visit my mom due to something my grandmother believed many years ago…don’t ask, it might be a crazy southern thing.  I must hear about some man, who was my second cousin once removed who was related to so and so who died, and didn’t I know him, but alas, I never met the man.  But I wouldn’t really change that.  That’s family.

The point of my post tonight is to say that if you really thought about the pieces of your life, they fit that way for a reason.  I am very happy to have so many different pieces in my life.  Some are weird, strange, and things I never, ever imagined belonging to the puzzle that is known as me, but I wouldn’t really want to start over.  So here’s to a year of new experiences and new adventures to fit with my 37 piece puzzle.  Cheers friends.
