This week is one of change. It’s time for a new season, quite literally, as fall is just days away (someone should let the weather know), and for entertainment, as a new season of television programming arrives…
For television fans, it’s going to be a difficult few weeks with so many new shows trying to buy your affection. It’s at moments like these (and very few others) that snap judgments and tunnel vision are your friends.
The truth of the matter is, you won’t be able to watch them all, so I’d like to introduce you to my tried and true television show selection method. Shows get one episode to convince me to watch another, if I’m not dying to know what happens next by the end of the pilot, you’re out.
Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. There are shows that revived themselves from a rocky start that I’ve gone back to. There are shows that I gave a bonus episode or two to convince me…but the method has served me well.
Now, as we embark on this brave, new season, go forth, make smart judgment calls, and enjoy.
