The thing about opinions is, by definition, everyone has them. That’s all fine and dandy when you agree with them, then there are those times when actor Joaquin Phoenix opens his mouth and lambastes the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
I don’t want to deprive any one of their opinion, or misrepresent them. So here’s exactly what he called the Academy Awards: ”…the stupidest thing in the whole world.”
The whole world? I can think of a few things that may be slightly less intelligent than an award ceremony for films, but to each his own.
I happen to disagree, for many reasons, but mostly because–if you’re going to dis the Academy, come up with a better word than stupid. Acceptable replacements (courtesy of Thesaurus.com):
- brainless
- doltish
- deficient
- moronic
- mindless
- unintelligent
- trivial
- shortsighted
- puerile
- nonsensical
I still completely agree, but if you’re going to bash one of my favorite events of the year and thus belittle the excitement and interest of many, many of your fans (those are the people who see your movies), you can at least expand your vocabulary to do so.
