Welcome to International Women's Day. Today is meant to raise awareness for women's rights issues around the world. It's also an opportunity to appreciate how far we've come while acknowledging that there's still a ways to go.
Women's equality is an ongoing battle, one that cannot be won without allies. Dudes, I'm looking at you. We're not asking anyone to fight our battles, but without support we can only get so far.
Seeing as "Captain Marvel" also hits theaters today, I thought I'd celebrate some female fierceness.
First up, a musical that's been a few centuries in the making - " Six." If you've ever wondered what it would be like if the wives of Henry VIII formed a girl group, this show is the answer. (Think Spice Girls meet the Tudors)
Next, a marvel of a woman who tends to get overlooked in the discussions surrounding Marvel women - Jessica Jones. Long before "Captain Marvel" hit the big screen, this private investigator/vigilante was being a seriously tough cookie and not apologizing for it.
Finally, the woman who finally broke into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's boys club, Captain Marvel. I won't spoil anything, because I haven't seen the film yet, but I've got a good feeling about this one. Also, because it cannot be said enough - it's about damn time.
