…Be Self-Evident

IMG_4597Happy Fourth of July Eve! Seeing as this is my last pre-fourth post, I’d thought I’d use today to talk about the US of A.

As we celebrate our country’s 240th birthday, we’re  facing plenty of challenges. Our two-party political system seems to be headed towards a major overhaul. There’s a lot of anger, fear, disappointment, and frustration.

If you listen to some, our country is a sad, nearly unrecognizable shadow of its former self. We’ve fallen from some great pedestal of perfection that we once inhabited.

Here’s the thing though, we we’re never perfect. We never all agreed, and we certainly didn’t all get along. Even the founding of our nation was a contested issue. And all you have to do is skim our nation’s history since then to see that we’ve had our fair share of differences since then (Civil War, anyone?).

While we do not have perfection down, what we have in spades is resilience. We keep going and try to be better. We obviously don’t always succeed, but we don’t let that stop us from trying again. It may be dark now, but we’ve seen much worse and come out stronger.

Despite our flaws, there’s still plenty to be proud of in our great nation. We may not be perfect, but its our flaws and ability to learn from the past and keep looking towards the future that will get us through even the bleakest of times.

And on that note, I’ll leave you to enjoy your independence and holiday weekend. Happy Fourth of July!

…just for fun:
