…bide Time

To those who know it, Pawnee, (the Akron of Southwest Indiana) is a town of optimism, friendship, and the first case of mega-diabetes. To those who don’t, you are missing out…and we’re all paying the price.

Pawnee, home of the fabulous show, “Parks and Recreation,” and some fabulous characters,  is in peril. This week NBC “quietly” put the show on hiatus. The reaction of fans has been anything but.

Fans took to the social medias and expressed their sadness, quite often in awesome pun form:

This is, literally, the worst news we've heard all day: NBC Has Quietly Put #ParksandRec on Hiatus: vult.re/15XYd2v via @vulture

No, Leslie Knope has not been cancelled (as if that’s possible), but only 3 more episodes before 2014 is not enough Amy Poehler time for any one.

Not only are we being forced to ration 3 episodes over the remainder of 2013, but the previously scheduled new episode, meant to air tonight, has been replaced with a repeat of “The Voice.”

No offense to Carson, Adam, Blake, Christina, and Cee Lo, but their storytelling pales in comparison to the folks of the Parks and Rec Department of Pawnee. Not to mention that there aren’t many hidden nuances to catch in a second viewing of “The Voice.”

The real crime here is that the Halloween episode will now be airing well after Halloween. That’s just wrong.

NBC, I’m disappointed. Yes, I know, “Parks and Recreation” has never had “great” numbers and yet you’ve kept them on the air for five seasons.  We should appreciate the time we’ve been given, but to promise us a sixth season, start said sixth season and then quietly postpone it…it’s enough to make a fan beg Netflix to pick it up (please Netflix?).

You have a great story here. I think you know that. The folks of Pawnee are a microcosm of the nation and times in which we live, a metaphorical mirror in which we can all see at least some of our own selves. We find the hard-working political idealism of Leslie, the surly, cynical realism of Ron, the angelic perfection of Anne, the occasionally misguided entrepreneurial spirit of Tom, the extreme (but usually correct) overuse of the word literally of Chris, and the sullen but often helpful minimalist dedication of April.

What will we do without them?

I mean NBC, we get it, we’re all broken up about the impending departure of Ann and Chris, but this is not the way to deal with it. Life in Pawnee will go on. Please let it.
