If you watched the latest pilot episode of Revolution, the idea of a giant blackout might appeal to you. What do you mean you don’t know what I’m talking about? Well, I’ll give you an example. A few weeks ago I went out to dinner with my husband and oldest daughter. The entire time we were enjoying our meal, talking about our days, talking to the waiter, eating our food, and enjoying our experience, I watched a lady out of the corner of my eye. Okay, it wasn’t like I was stalking her, but they were right in front of us. She was on her phone…and her son was trying to talk to her. Then he went over to his dad and talked. Then their food came, and she was on her phone. Then, guess what? She was on her phone. And she continued to be on her phone the entire time. Checking it, texting, fidgeting with it. I wanted to smack it out of her hand…but it wasn’t my place.
The beginning of this show opened up like the woman on the phone. The people were busy using technology and everyone was plugged into something. Then the “blackout” happened and we go 15 years into the future. People were talking, farming, learning without computers. Wow. It looked so peaceful. Now, I’m not saying I want to join a commune or anything, but I think it is very important to “unplug”. I was joked on for not having a “smart” phone. I have young friends and I couldn’t text until a year ago really. I had a “flip” phone. Yup. I missed it when I changed to the new phone. Anyway, the concept behind this show seems like a cross between The Hunger Games and Twilight. Okay, so maybe not, but the “forbidden” love type thing made me think of that. If vampires jump out at night that would just be one more plus to the show…moving on. It did have one bad-ass fight scene and a lame shot of the girl fumbling with her cross-bow. The very hot guy came around the corner and saved her though. He has a long bow with some wicked arrows and he just needs some tights and pointy ears to be like Legolas.
Anyway, I know everyone is jumping on the bow and arrow band wagon these days, but I hope this show keeps it realistic. I look forward to seeing this pan out as it has the guy from the short-lived show The Cape and the evil mirror dude from Once Upon a Time.
