Hello, friends, and happy Monday! While I’m off in Europe, I have a few scheduled posts to share with you {not too many, because I’d rather write in the here and now}, but for today, I’m excited to bring you some healthy travel meal tips from Jeanette at Love.Fit.Live! I first came across Jeanette’s blog when I read one of her interviews with a MasterChef favorite - seriously, J. does a great job interviewing some fascinating folks - and I love her picks and advice for healthy living! So read on for some great travel advice from Jeanette, and for more, go visit this pretty lady at Love.Fit.Live!

Travel Healthy Advice from Love.Fit.Live

Hi friends,

First, I want give K.C. a big THANK YOU for hosting me on her blog while she’s away. I’m currently packing for my Mexico honeymoon and, as you know, K.C. is visiting the cafés, museums and beautiful sights of Paris (lucky girl!).

Since many of you have mentioned you’re getting ready for summer travel too, I want to share some of my favorite airline-approved healthy snacks. I’m following the Eat Clean Diet, which means I eat a small, healthy meal about every three hours. And, if I miss a meal, I turn into a total grouch and people want to say this to me…

Grumpy eCard

Has that ever happened to you?

And then I have to say…

Hungry

Anyway, if you’ve been to an airport lately, you know it can be a challenge to find a healthy snack – greasy pizza, burgers, and delicious, but diet-crushing options are around the turn at every terminal, and I really wish restaurants would consider this:

But they haven’t yet. So I like to pack my carry on with these instead – that way I can eat whenever I want. I like to go for snacks that are easy access and don’t cause a big mess, like:

Protein Powder

You can easily add protein powder to an iced coffee (pretty much every airport has a Starbucks or coffee shop!) or a beverage served on board the plane. Perfect Fit Protein by the Tone It Up girls comes with 20 small packets that you can easily fit into your purse or carry on.

KIND Bars

The KIND Minis Variety Pack, 12-Count are great because they’re light and easy to pack, plus they’re loaded with nuts and natural ingredients – and only 100 calories per bar. Score!

Homemade Protein Bars

I like Jamie Eason’s Chocolate Protein Bars. These are great because you can make them in advance and then stash them in your carry-on when you’re ready to go! They’re a great sweet treat that can replace cookies and other junk food.

Instant Oatmeal or Soup
Dr-M-Black-Bean-And-Lime-Soup

Just ask for a cup of hot water on board your flight and you’re good to go! For oatmeal, I like Glutenfreeda’s Instant Oatmeal, Variety Pack, 6-Count Packets (Pack of 8). For soup, I like Dr. McDougall’s Right Foods Vegan Black Bean & Lime Soup, 3.4-Ounce Cups (Pack of 6) or Dr. McDougall’s Right Foods Vegan Split Pea Soup, Lower Sodium, 1.9-Ounce Cups (Pack of 6) with some baby carrots added.

Water
Smart-Water

I always buy a big bottle of water once I get past the security checkpoint. Fitness expert @JillFit says “On #travel days, it’s easy to get dehydrated w/flights + more-than-normal coffee intake :) I make it a point to double water consumption.” So drink up, friends!

I’m all for enjoying vacations for what they are – vacations! And I’m definitely going to indulge in some amazing food and BBC (Bailey’s Banana Coconut aka Best Drink Ever) – but I’d rather save my indulgence for when I arrive at my destination instead of racking up unhealthy calories on the way there.

Are you going on any trips this summer? What healthy snacks are you going to bring?
