Bohol Bee Farm Tour: A Day in The Life of a Bee

Bohol Bee Farm Tour: A Day in The Life of a BeeAfter having our lunch at the Bohol Bee Farm we took some time to rest and then went on with the Farm tour. A tour is held every thirty minutes and costs P30 per person. The tour starts with a visit to the farm's garden. A guide introduces the guests to the different plants and herbs grown in the farm. I remember our guide showing us the oregano, dill and basil while explaining their different uses. We went to see a man-made beehive after the garden tour. Bohol Bee Farm Tour: A Day in The Life of a BeeA few things which I have lifted from our tour guide's lecture: 1.In each beehive, there is only one queen bee (you can easily spot her as she is the largest among all the bees) 2.Male bees only have one purpose (to mate with the queen). I guess this leads us to the next fact - All worker bees are female 3.Guard bees don't allow the worker bees to enter the premises if they don't bring nectar/pollen with them.We saw several other farm activities as well. The tour guide took us to the raffia-making and basket weaving areas. Bohol Bee Farm Tour: A Day in The Life of a BeeBohol Bee Farm Tour: A Day in The Life of a BeeIt's a good thing that the farm is able to provide employment to some locals through its livelihood activities.

You are not allowed to enter this area unless you are staying at the farm. A steep flight of stairs led to a nice viewing deck. The tour guide said stay-in guests are treated and pampered with their very own "Island hilot" in this open-air area facing the sea.
Shortly after the tour, we visited the farm's shop to check out their products.
Since the farm offers free taste to guests, we tried some of their honey products. Wild honey tastes very sweet. Coconut honey is not that sweet but it really had that strong touch of coconut in its flavor. I prefer wild honey since I'm not fond of mixing coconut flavor with other food.

We tried the farm's ice cream to cap off our visit. We were supposed to try the famous Malunggay ice-cream but we got disappointed after tasting their Malunggay spread. We ended up ordering the Chocolate flavor instead. Two scoops of ice-cream placed in dried Camote cones cost P60. I am satisfied with the ice-cream - not too sweet and with a very interesting consistency.

How to get there (from Tagbilaran airport):
a. for the flush travelerIf you have enough dough to spend, why not ride a metered taxi and worry about nothing else? :)b. for the adventure seekerRide a habal-habal (local term for a motor bike) and pay about P200-400 depending on your haggling skills.c. for the budget-conscious backpackerRide a tricycle to Tawala waiting area (P10) + take a jeep to Dao (P15) + hire a habal-habal to Bohol Bee Farm (P20-P50). Take note that jeeps pass by the Tawala waiting area only every hour. This means you have to wait for the next jeep if the first one that passes by is already full.
