Boudoir Photography Styles

Congratulations! You've made the first step to schedule your boudoir photography session photoshoot. I'm sure you have searched google or Pinterest for boudoir styles and sexy boudoir photos that you love, now it's time to make that dream a reality.

When preparing for your boudoir photoshoot, I suggest making a Boudoir photos Pinterest board that you love and that you believe call out to you and would capture you in beautiful light.

You might also ask how much of the styling is left to the photographer? Well, every photographer is different and has a different style for their clients but only you know yourself best. Take the time, chat with your photographer, and share some of your boudoir inspiration. Sharing your likes and worries will help your photographer learn a little more about you as a person and what you like to make sure you get the session tailored for you and the boudoir photos you will love.

Photographers are all different and have a very different style. Some edit with a light and airy style or with a lot of neutral backgrounds with clean edits - while others may edit in a dark and moody way with more browns and blacks. You have to find the style of boudoir photos that calls to you, but also be looking at the posing and ask yourself if any of the poses call to you.

What to Wear for Boudoir Outfits?

Whether this is your first or hundredth boudoir session, you always question "What should I wear?", "What's my boudoir Style?", "What is going to look sexy on me?" As a boudoir photographer, this is the question I get asked most often so I have decided to write a blog of what to wear to your boudoir session and address some boudoir photography styles that are flattering for many, to make planning that much easier.

No there is not a formula for the perfect boudoir photos, no specific steps that work for everyone but hopefully, these tips will help you when planning for YOUR boudoir session. Ultimately, boudoir is a personal photoshoot, this style is custom to every woman and what makes them look and feel beautiful. It could be lingerie,or straight nude. Whatever is in your mind, we will be sure to make work from the photography side of things.

Does the Photographer Style Your Boudoir Session?

I get asked if I have a repertoire of clothes or lingerie for you to choose from for photography sessions and the answer is no, and here's why:

Every client that comes into my Central Maine studio is different - we are all different shapes and sizes but we all also have very different personalities and things we like.

I would fill my whole studio with the various different outfits available for every woman and their size and personality, but there is another reason....that is, my clothes aren't you .

Part of the journey of a boudoir photoshoot is finding outfits that make you feel confident and sexy or things you wear on a daily basis that make you feel beautiful. Boudoir is always about you and no one else except maybe your significant other. So, I encourage you to go on the journey to finding the things that make you feel confident, beautiful, and sexy.

How to Choose the Right Outfits

The first thing you need to do is look at your wardrobe and discover some things about yourself, do you like to be more exposed and show off your skin, do you want lingerie, or do you like to be comfier? Try on your favorite outfits, look at yourself in the mirror to discover what your style is if you don't know.

Do you have a lot of sexy lingerie or more oversized t-shirts, shirts with buttons, long socks, or stockings? This will help narrow down what you will wear.

When picking your outfits and lingerie there is no such thing as too many outfits to bring, you might not use them all but it is a good idea to bring several options to work with your photographer to make the decision at the studio. There are a few guidelines to consider: stay away from clashing patterns, dress for your body type, and try something new. If you are coming for a Bridal boudoir session , shoot for lacey white as well as your veil and possibly a bouquet of flowers.

Embrace Boudoir

Boudoir Photography is an experience, take the time to enjoy it. Remember, for the best boudoir experience choose a photographer that you jive with and has a style you love. Next, take the time to search google and Pinterest to find sexy inspirational photos you love.

The hardest part of the photoshoot is always planning the outfits, but as long as you remember to dress in what makes you feel confident and sexy whether it's new outfits or outfits you wear all the time, make the experience fun and memorable. If you have questions or are questioning if something will look sexy, ask your photographer and send a few pictures.

XOXO,

Catherine
