Super Bowl Sunday means something different to everyone.
Obviously, there are those who are concerned about the actual game.
For some, it’s the one day of the year they have to feign an interest in football (at least the commercials might be interesting).
For others, it means commercials and the half-time show (no interest in the actual game required).
And yes, there are even some who are interested in both the game and the commercials.
2WC doesn’t have a strong leaning towards either side of the football field this year, but we like to think we fall closest to that last group. And while some might be able to enjoy the game without an emotional investment in one side or the other, we like to pick sides.
So, without further ado, we give you our picks for Super Bowl XLVII:
Zer: San Francisco - This was a tough choice. On one hand, the 49ers are a rival of my Rams. So loyalty law dictates that I hate the 49ers and everything they stand for. On the other hand, the Rams did win and tie against the 49ers this season, so in a way, if the 49ers win it would be a small victory for my underdog Rams. But at the end of the day, I just like the 49ers. I know the Ravens have plenty in their favor too, but I’ve decided to go with my guts on this one. Go 49ers!
Stephanie: Baltimore - I went through a similar back and forth but landed at a different decision. I decided that the positive conclusion shouldn’t be about whether or not I wanted to root for or against the 49ers, but which team had the most heartwarming stories. From there it was no contest. Sure, Nate Silver may have picked the Niners, along with many, many others based on stats and defense, et al. But do they have Ray Lewis’ impending retirement, or Michael Oher of The Blind Side fame? Need I go on? We have karma on our side is all I have to say. Just remember Ravens as you head into your final battle of the season, come tomorrow, I will be rooting for the Rams again. But for now: Let’s go Ravens!
