…Break the Ice

We’re well past the halfway point of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games. At the risk of jinxing it, and because this will be my last chance to mention it (2WC’s countdown to the Oscars starts 2/20), I have to point out the obvious — the games have gone pretty smoothly.

Okay, so the warm weather made the slopes a little slushy, and some of the facilities (more specifically, the facilities at the facilities) were just shy of completed, and there was that incident with the nearly hijacked plane.

But given the media hype surrounding security fears and Russian politics, anything short of the earth opening up and swallowing the Olympic village feels like a victory.

So assuming that Sochi doesn’t float off into the Black Sea, and we don’t find out that the KGB was actually responsible for the warm weather, I think we can chalk the event up as a win.

Here’s to a successful remainder of the games.
