…Break the Mold

In the world of short-lived and invented controversy, there is no bigger offender than Disney.

Their latest offense, the introduction of their first Latina princess, Sofia (to the right).

Sofia is  the star of “Sofia the First” a television movie and series set to debut November 18 on the Disney Channel and Disney Jr.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.  She’s a little young to be a Disney Princess.  They usually wait until they’re 16 before they marry them off to the most eligible prince or local ruffian with a heart of gold.

Okay, so the real issue might be whether or not this new pint-sized princess is Latina enough(because judging the degree to which someone is or is not Latina isn’t offensive).

Making a smart move, the big mouse was quick to address the outrage over Sofia not being a big enough stereotype.

Sofia’s mother, Queen Miranda, was born in Galdiz.  Which we all know has Latin influences.  However, Sofia’s father, Birk Blathazar, is from Freezenberg.  Which historically has more of a Germanic influence.  Finally, Sofia herself was born and raised in Enchancia.

And if that doesn’t clear everything up for you, then you might want to dedicate a good amount of time to brushing up on your geography.
