…Break With Tradition

Posted on the 27 October 2015 by Zer @the2women

220px-The_nightmare_before_christmas_posterIt may not even be Halloween, but the Christmas season is all but in full swing. That, of course, means the holiday retail season is all set and rearing to go on the other side of Halloween. Which made today’s announcement from retailer, REI, all the more surprising and refreshing.

They’re cancelling Black Friday with their #OptOutside campaign.

Okay, so they’re not really cancelling Black Friday, but they are giving their employees the day off. Sure, it’s a bit of a publicity stunt, but the end result is that at least one retailer has said no to the Black Friday madness.

Will other stores follow suit? Probably not, but you never know. If they do, won’t it just lead to another day (Black Saturday?) taking its place. Of course it will, but at least that day isn’t the day after Thanksgiving.

Maybe instead of spending Friday with a bunch of crazy people out for a deal, you can spend it with a different kind of crazy people — your family.
