…Build Anticipation

To_Kill_a_MockingbirdToday, the literary world was all abuzz over the announcement of a long-awaited, but completely unexpected sequel.

No, there’s not another Harry Potter, Twilight, or Hunger Games book coming out (…yet). However, this is a book that has been read by most, if not all, teenagers for quite a few generations.

In case large photo to the right didn’t give it away, Harper Lee’s second novel is finally being published. That’s Harper Lee of “To Kill a Mockingbird” fame.  Yes, you read that right. This is her second novel.

“Go Set A Watchman,” the sequel to Mockingbird will hit bookshelves this summer, on July 14th. In case you’re curious, it’s predecessor was released on July 11th, 1960. That’s 55 years, nearly to the exact date, after “To Kill a Mockingbird” was published.

So what does this all mean?

Well, if you somehow managed to avoid becoming emotionally invested in the residents of Maycomb, Alabama, then this means absolutely nothing.

But if you’ve always kind of wondered what happened to Scout after the last page, well then this is huge…like eighth Harry Potter book huge.

Here’s hoping it’s worth the wait.
