Building 2014 with My Bear Hands

Posted on the 01 January 2014 by Rarasaur @rarasaur

As many of my long-term readers know, I’m a fan of setting goals and being held accountable to them by way of the buddy system.  When I tell a buddy I’m going to reach a goal, it becomes incredibly difficult for me not to grab it with both hands.  The goal, that is– not the buddy.

Now that none of us are worried about being grabbed by a dinosaur, we can move onto the part where I make grandiose claims about my mostly-bloggy plans this year.

Are y’all ready for this?

Rarasaur, Enjoying Year 2

I plan to enjoy my second year of blogging, and incorporate all sorts of exciting new things.  I probably won’t love all of the ideas, but I want to at least give them an honest try.   Here are some things I’m currently excited about:

  • Micro-blogging : I’m not sure where or how I’ll be integrating this.  I may even just use it to spruce up my poor little neglected Tumblr page.  I would like to practice concise writing, though, and a planned micro-blog will help with this, I think.
  • ForThePromptless : Prompts for the Promptless starts back again in a few days.  Ooh la la!
  • Alliances : I’ve joined some blogging alliances recently.  The announcements haven’t been made yet, but you’ll be seeing me all around the ‘sphere.
  • Video : I’m going to do a video for y’all.  As soon as I find the button that turns off my perfectionism program.

The Queen Creative

For Dave & myself, 2014 will be the year of the reemergence of our business.  We’ve been on a sort of hiatus for the last 3 years.  We’ve converted our business website to a wordpress.org rather than a hosted account and put in some information about who we were are.  It’s in the very early stages of development since we just started working on it last night, but keep an eye on us.

We’re going to be awesome.

As an added bonus, I’ve also started working on what I’m calling “Business Art 101″ — a resource for artists in business, and business with an artistic focus.  All the tips, suggestions, and business explanations will be an accumulation of my expertise in this particular field.  They will be offered in multiple formats– and relate back to 7 basic case studies.  The 7 studies are loosely based on people and companies who I actually worked with, who all achieved their dreams through my assistance.  I’m really looking forward to documenting the process and discussing all the fun aspects of business management and development!  Plus, Dave illustrated the case studies for me.  You can meet my case study ladies here:  Ollie the Blogger, Isabel the Shopkeeper, Padme the Photographer, Titania the Crafter, Guinevere the Artist, Nan Bollen the Author, Zixi the Graphic Designer.

Secret Projects (Shhh…)

  • Dave is putting together something deliciously Batman-y.  It all started with a late night conversation, and has morphed into a larger project.
  • The novel, written by my husband, that made me fall a little more in love with him will be published this year. Stay tuned.
  • Once our site is up and running, you’ll be able to buy the fun products that we make– previously only available to locals at craft shows before.  You won’t be hearing about it on my site, though — Rarasaur.com will continue to be blissfully business and seriousness free– so be sure to follow TheQueenCreative.com if you want to stay in the loop.

Pipe Dreams

  • I would like to read 100 new blogs entirely from start to current.
  • I would like to leave comments on 10% percent of the blogs I read. (I believe in big-but-achievable goals.)
  • I would like to add alt text to all my images.  Some of you may remember this one from my list last year…
  • I would like to reach 10,000 blog followers and then celebrate by gathering 10,000 of something and taking lots of pictures.
  • I would like to do 2 mail out campaigns, much like the Valentine’s Day cards and Friendship bracelets.  I’ve started saving!
  • I would like to make it to year 2 of my no-sugar-gifting promise.
  • I would like to meet another blogger– face to face!
  • I would like to turn 30 in August without having a total nervous breakdown about leaving my 20′s behind.  So far it seems like no big deal, but who knows how I’ll feel by then…

Stuff Happening Right Now

    • The Bloggies have started! A few friends have already told me that they’ve nominated me in Best Writing of a Blog and Best-Designed Blog.  I’m honored and I want to play– but before I cast my ballot, I want to know if you’d like me to nominate you for a particular category:  http://2014.bloggi.es/  I have no idea what sort of landslide would be required to win something like this, but I say we give it our rawring best.   Rarasaur Readers for the win! #TeamRawr
    • Instagram : Dave and I have made an instagram account because there’s just not enough pictures of our cats in the world.  If you’re lucky, I might just snap a little video of them talking.  Right now, the pictures are linked to my sidebar, but if you want to follow along properly, you’ll find us at Instagram.com/TheQueenCreative  If you’re into Facebook, Twitter, GoodReads, or Google+, you’ll see links to me in the footer.  Let’s connect, friends.
    • Le Clown has channeled his geeky side for a fun New Year’s game with prizes.  There’s a video with pictures of bloggers, and I think you’ll recognize a certain dino somewhere in the middle.  She has a message for you: http://clownonfire.com/2014/01/01/easter-egg-hunt/

Who’s your favorite dancing bear?  What’s on your pipe dream list for 2014?

Of the categories for the 2014 Bloggies, what do you deserve to win? (And don’t say none, unless you supply an awesome category that they don’t have– because you are terrific and deserve all the wins ever.)

Also, thanks for being a great buddy.
