The current recession has left few of us untouched. We’ve all had to make some adjustments in some way or another.
However, some of the victims of this economic crisis have gone unnoticed.
Last year, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) was interrupted due to a lack of funds. For several months, any cries for help, declarations of war or friendly hello’s, went unanswered.
In December, SETI was operational again, but due to crimped budgets and a lack of response from our way-out-there friends, SETI’s future is uncertain.
It’s not surprising considering the decades along with billions of dollars spent in search of other intelligent life. After all, we haven’t heard so much as a peep out of that infinite cosmos.
Maybe it’s about time we let E.T. pay the phone bill.
