When we were together
Meeting every weekend, and sometimes
Even after work we'd find
Some coffee, our favorite mocha
Or on those really joyous days
When your smile would remain
A single capital D, tilted right in charming strain
We'd have some shots
And maintain a flow of laughter
Throughout our chitter chatter
Of our crushes, and heart-matters
And without completing my sentence
You'd pick up my chain of thought
And show me warmth and make me feel
Respected, loved, as if the Holy Grail
Yes, I knew and cherished you then
But I cannot even begin to express
How much I cherish you now
There are no friends like you here somehow
Nor will there ever be, my friend
For reasons of time we gave to us
For every single thought we shared
That we'd never share with our own selves; we cared.
If someone tells you friends are unimportant
That people just use you for their reasons
And throw you when they're done
They haven't met us, have they?
And I know the kind of bond we have
Is hard to find, and I thank you for it
